METERING MODE IN PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT IS METERING? Metering basically means  taking a light reading.  Your camera has a built-in meter that measures the amount of light in whatever scene you’re shooting and enables it to determine the appropriate settings to properly expose the photo.  TYPES OF METERING MODES a)   MATRIX METERING  It measures light across the whole frame and the camera sets the exposure automatically to suit the scene. When to use this mode? Evenly lit scenes, landscape photography b) CENTER_WEIGHTED METERING This light metering mode measures the whole picture area, but it places a higher emphasis on the center of the frame. When to use this mode? Portraits, Center Composed Image. c) SPOT METERING Spot metering uses a single "spot" of the frame to calculate exposure. Your focal point determines the spot or area of your scene that is evaluated. When to use this mode? Properly expose a single object, Create silhouettes, Wildlife.

FOCUS IN PHOTOGRAPHY

FOCUS IN PHOTOGRAPHY Focus has a very important role in photography. If your subject is out of focus, you will lose the gravity of the image. As you can see in the first image, the image is properly focused and the subject is clear,, and in the second image, you can see the image is out of focus, and the subject it's blurred. You will get two types of focus in your camera. a) Auto- Focus b) Manual Focus In Auto-Focus Camera will automatically focus on the subject to expose a good image and in Manual Focus , You have to manually set the focus on the subject as per the scenario. In Auto Focus You will get different variations in your camera as shown below: a)  AF-A ( Auto-focus Automatic) b)  AF-S (Auto-focus Single) c)  AF-C ( Auto-focus Continous) 1. When to Use AF-S mode? It is a powerful AF mode, It is used while your subject is still such as landscapes, architecture, products, etc. While shooting this type of photography you can use this AF-S mode to expose a good ima...

ACTIVE D-LIGHTING IN PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT IS ACTIVE D-LIGHTING? Active-D Lighting  expands the  dynamic range  of your camera’s sensor  Active D-Lighting is often best left off when shooting in RAW. There is a glossary. When strong lighting increases the contrast between bright and dark areas of an image. It causes the shadow and highlight details to be lost as shown in the image below. The image on the left shows the balanced lighting achieved when Advanced D-Lighting is turned off. The image on the right was taken with D-Lighting turned on. Notice the dark areas in the foreground and background of the image. WHEN TO USE ACTIVE D-LIGHTING ? Basically, it is used in low light conditions or extreme sunlight conditions to expose the image well without changing the other parameter to get the perfect details in the image.

BRACKETING IN PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT IS  BRACKETING? It's a feature inside the camera and it works in various ways. It gives you an image with multiple exposures in the same subject in the image. In a high-end camera, there will be a ( Bkt ) button on the left-hand side of the camera and for others, you will get this setting by pressing the (i) button in the camera. Here are a few examples so it will be more clear to you. This way you end up with the three images in a series with exactly the same composition but at different exposures for you to select the best of later on. WHEN TO USE BRACKETING? Most of the time if you get confused about what exposure will be needed in the particular frame, at that time you can use  bracketing to get the perfect exposure. Its start with three to nine different exposure variation. for ex.  AE0.3, AE0.7, AE1.0, AE1.3, etc. ‘ Automatic Exposure Bracketing ‘ (AEB) can be useful while shooting the sunset because it   changes from moment to moment) and other times yo...

COMPOSITION IN PHOTOGRAPHY

COMPOSITION IN PHOTOGRAPHY Composition in photography refers to the position of elements inside the frame and how they interact with each other. Ultimately, the composition is about the visual structure of your image.  By using composition your photo looks very attractive and interesting and it will be easy for the viewers to understand the subject and the story of the image. Note : Y ou cannot click good images  By just using ISO , Shutter Speed , and Aperture . You need to understand composition as well to take appealing images. THE ELEMENTS OF COMPOSITION a) THE RULE OF THIRDS Using the rule of thirds in photography creates visual interest and impact in your photos. Gridlines divide your scene into thirds, both horizontally and Vertically.  These lines and the four points at which they meet create areas on your frame for placing subjects and essential elements as shown in the image below. b)   CENTERED COMPOSITION If your frame is wide and if you found foregr...

EXPOSURE TRIANGLE IN PHOTOGRAPHY

EXPOSURE TRIANGLE IN PHOTOGRAPHY It's all about the camera's manual mode of operation. To get a perfectly exposed image you need to understand the exposure triangle well. This is an exposure triangle that has three important terms which are related to photography that is: a) ISO b)SHUTTER SPEED c)APERTURE This  exposure triangle diagram  is a great reference to use when determining what settings will allow more light in and what side effects it would entail. WHAT ARE CAMERA MODES? HOW DOES IT BE WORKS? The camera can be used in three modes. a) Auto Mode - In auto mode you  don't have any control over the  camera. It will automatically set all the parameters like iso, shutter speed, and aperture as per the scenario by itself .  b) Aperture-priority Mode (A)- In A mode you have to set your aperture as needed and the camera will automatically set the other parameter Iso and Shutter speed on its own. c)Shutter-priority Mode (S)-  In S  mode you have to s...

DEPTH OF FIELD IN PHOTOGRAPHY

DEPTH OF FIELD IN PHOTOGRAPHY If you want to grow your photography to an advanced level then you must understand Depth of Field. Depth of field defines that how much area is blurred before and after the subject in your image, Through Depth of field you can compose the image and show your subject properly into the viewer’s eye. There are two types of Depth of field. a)  Shallow depth of field. In Shallow depth of field, only the main subject will be in focus, and the area before the subject and after the subject will be a blur. as shown below: b) Deep depth of field In deep Depth of field, a larger amount of image is in the focus, the line between the nearest and farthest elements that are reasonably sharp is long. as shown below: WHEN TO USE DEEP AND THE SHALLOW DEPTH OF FIELD WHILE TAKING THE PICTURES? You have to use deep depth of field when   photographing landscapes (daytime and at night), seascapes, cityscapes, and architecture.it keeps more of the image sharp a...

SHUTTER SPEED IN PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT IS SHUTTER SPEED? A shutter is like a door for your camera sensor. The faster the shutter speed, the shorter the time the image sensor is exposed to light; the slower the shutter speed, the longer the time the image sensor is exposed to light.  Shutter speed calculates its time unit in Seconds. SLOWER SHUTTER SPEED- 1/2s,1/4s,1/10s,1/20s,1/30s FASTER SHUTTER SPEED - 1/1000s 1/2000s 1/4000s 1/5000s WHAT IS S MODE or TV MODE IN YOUR CAMERA? In this mode, you have to set the shutter speed and the camera will automatically choose the perfect Aperture or Perfect ISO to expose a well-lit image. WHEN TO USE SHUTTER SPEED LOW OR HIGH? If natural light is sufficient then choose a faster shutter speed to shoot the image and if the light is not sufficient in your subject then set the slower shutter speed to collect more light into the sensor and must use a tripod to avoid blurry images .

APERTURE IN PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT IS APERTURE? Aperture is related to your lens. It refers to the opening of a lens through which light passes. Aperture defines its value in f/number as shown below: Lower F-number gives more exposure because they represent the larger aperture, While the higher F-number gives you less exposure to the image. HOW DOES IT WORK? If the lights in your subject are low then you should open the wide aperture to collect the maximum amount of light, While If the lights in your subject are high then you should open the narrow aperture to produce a good image. While taking the portraits you must set the smaller aperture, because it will blur your background and the photo looks amazing. As shown below: While shooting the landscapes, you have to set the higher aperture, By choosing a higher aperture it will collect a lot of details in the foreground, midground, and background of the image. Aperture defines the depth of field too, I will explain it briefly in another blog.

ISO IN PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT IS ISO? ISO - defines camera sensitivity while shooting the image. ISO is simply a camera setting that will brighten or darken a photo. If you increase your iso number, your photos will grow progressively brighter. If you decrease you will get perfect detailing and perfect light to the image as I have shown above. The sensor size of the camera defines the iso performance.  if you don’t have enough light in the subject don’t force your camera to shoot in high ISO because it will turn the image with lots of grain and it will lose the details of the picture. At night you will not get sufficient light to click the landscape or stars in that case you have to set your ISO high like 1600 or 3200 to expose the image and you have to use a larger shutter speed like 10s 30s and you must set your aperture numerically low like f/3.5 f/2.8 as shown in the image below: Note: To click the perfect well-lit image in daylight set low ISO will help you to get the high-quality image.
