FOCUS IN PHOTOGRAPHY
Focus has a very important role in photography. If your subject is out of focus, you will lose the gravity of the image. As you can see in the first image, the image is properly focused and the subject is clear,, and in the second image, you can see the image is out of focus, and the subject it's blurred.
You will get two types of focus in your camera.
a) Auto- Focus
b) Manual Focus
In Auto-Focus Camera will automatically focus on the subject to expose a good image and in Manual Focus, You have to manually set the focus on the subject as per the scenario.
In Auto Focus You will get different variations in your camera as shown below:
a) AF-A (Auto-focus Automatic)
b) AF-S (Auto-focus Single)
c) AF-C (Auto-focus Continous)
1. When to Use AF-S mode?
It is a powerful AF mode, It is used while your subject is still such as landscapes, architecture, products, etc. While shooting this type of photography you can use this AF-S mode to expose a good image as shown below.
2. When to use AF-C mode?
In AF-C mode Once the focus is locked by pressing the half shutter then still if the subject moves then it will continuously track the subject with focus and give the best results in your image. It is widely used in wildlife photography, Sports Photography, and other moving objects as well. it will freeze the image in action and produce the best result as shown in the image below:
3. When to use AF-A mode?
In this mode, the camera will select the focus mode regarding the subject if it's moving then it will use AF-C to capture the movement of the image and if it's still then It will auto-select the AF-S mode to capture the image. This mode seems so intelligent but sometimes you have chances to lose the focus from the main subject. I don't recommend this mode but if you are a beginner then you can use this AF- A mode in weddings and events also.
AUTOFOCUS AREA MODE
SINGLE POINT AF
In Single focus points camera focuses on the subject in the selected focus point and another area in the frame will be blurred.
DYNAMIC AREA AF (9,21,39 POINT)
If the subject briefly leaves the selected focus point, the camera will focus based on information from surrounding points. You can choose the number of focus points from 9, 21, and 39. Dynamic-area autofocus helps capturing fast-moving subjects.
3D TRACKING
In this 3D tracking mode If the composition is changed after the camera has focused, the camera will automatically track the subject and choose new focus points to expose a good image.
AUTO-AREA MODE
The camera automatically selects the focus points containing the subject.it will focus on the biggest and closest object in the frame. if the camera thinks the subject is still, it will auto choose the AF single point and if the subject moves then it will auto-select the Dynamic-area AF.
FACE-PRIORITY AF
Face-priority AF is a good choice for portraits and other photographs featuring human subjects facing the camera.
WIDE AREA AF
Wide-area AF is a good choice for hand-held shots of landscapes and the like. The focus point can be positioned anywhere in the frame using the multi-selector. The focus area is wider than that used for normal-area AF.
SUBJECT TRACKING AF
In subject-tracking AF, The camera will lock on to the subject in the focus area and track its movements even if you change the composition. It can be used to automatically track and maintain focus on subjects that are in motion.
NORMAL AREA AF
Normal-area AF offers to pinpoint focus. The multi-selector can be used to position the focus point anywhere in the frame.
