METERING MODE IN PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT IS METERING?

Metering basically means taking a light reading. Your camera has a built-in meter that measures the amount of light in whatever scene you’re shooting and enables it to determine the appropriate settings to properly expose the photo.

TYPES OF METERING MODES

a) MATRIX METERING

It measures light across the whole frame and the camera sets the exposure automatically to suit the scene.

When to use this mode?

Evenly lit scenes, landscape photography

b) CENTER_WEIGHTED METERING

This light metering mode measures the whole picture area, but it places a higher emphasis on the center of the frame.

When to use this mode?

Portraits, Center Composed Image.

c) SPOT METERING

Spot metering uses a single "spot" of the frame to calculate exposure. Your focal point determines the spot or area of your scene that is evaluated.

When to use this mode?

Properly expose a single object, Create silhouettes, Wildlife.

WHAT IS ACTIVE D-LIGHTING? Active-D Lighting expands the dynamic range of your camera’s sensor Active D-Lighting is often best left off when shooting in RAW. There is a glossary. When strong lighting increases the contrast between bright and dark areas of an image. It causes the shadow and highlight details to be lost as shown in the image below. The image on the left shows the balanced lighting achieved when Advanced D-Lighting is turned off. The image on the right was taken with D-Lighting turned on. Notice the dark areas in the foreground and background of the image. WHEN TO USE ACTIVE D-LIGHTING ? Basically, it is used in low light conditions or extreme sunlight conditions to expose the image well without changing the other parameter to get the perfect details in the image.

SHUTTER SPEED IN PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT IS SHUTTER SPEED? A shutter is like a door for your camera sensor. The faster the shutter speed, the shorter the time the image sensor is exposed to light; the slower the shutter speed, the longer the time the image sensor is exposed to light. Shutter speed calculates its time unit in Seconds. SLOWER SHUTTER SPEED- 1/2s,1/4s,1/10s,1/20s,1/30s FASTER SHUTTER SPEED - 1/1000s 1/2000s 1/4000s 1/5000s WHAT IS S MODE or TV MODE IN YOUR CAMERA? In this mode, you have to set the shutter speed and the camera will automatically choose the perfect Aperture or Perfect ISO to expose a well-lit image. WHEN TO USE SHUTTER SPEED LOW OR HIGH? If natural light is sufficient then choose a faster shutter speed to shoot the image and if the light is not sufficient in your subject then set the slower shutter speed to collect more light into the sensor and must use a tripod to avoid blurry images .
